Melinda Kothencz

Melinda Kothencz – I was born 1974, in Budapest. My interest in music and the arts manifested early on.  I initiated my musical studies in Kiskőrös and later completed my high school and university years in Szeged. In 1998, I graduated from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Szeged with an excellent qualification as an oboist, and oboe professor.

During my university years, I was a permanent collaborator with the Musica Parlante and Weiner Leó Chamber Orchestras. In 1990, I served as the principal oboist of the European Youth Orchestra in Darmstadt, Germany. From 1993 to 2001, I was a member of the Salieri Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Szeged National Theatre and Open-Air Plays. These orchestras performed successful concerts and opera productions in various European countries, including Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Norway, Spain, and the Netherlands. I attended the Baja Pro Musica International Summer Academy several times and actively participated in masterclasses by Nicholas Daniel (UK), Hadady László (FR), and Rong Yi Liu (Korea).

In 2001, I obtained a teaching position at the Liszt Ferenc Music School in Szekszárd, where I taught flute and oboe. I also taught oboe, chamber music, music theory, and previously music management at the Pécs School of Arts and Crafts, where I currently teach. From 2008 to the present, I have been a flute and oboe teacher at the Pécs Kontrasztok Artistic School. From 2010 to 2012, I actively participated in Pécs musical life as a member of the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2014 to 2019, I held the position of deputy director and head of music education at the Pécs School of Arts. Since 2002, I have been an active teacher in the career orientation program of the Pécs School of Arts, and since 2010, I have been the school’s contact person for the Talent Point program.

In 2019, with my organization, the X. National Oboe Camp took place in Pécs. I have served as a jury member in various music competitions, regional and national, and as a member of the international jury of the Serbian National Oboe Competition in Belgrade.

As a mentor teacher for the Messzehangzó Talents Foundation and the Géniusz Mentor Network, I am actively involved in talent-supporting work.
