Uroš Košir, tuba player from Slovenia started his music education by learning how to play violoncello and accordion at Primary Music School in Kamnik.

After he decided to start attending the Secondary Music School in Ljubljana, where he came across prof. Igor Krivokapič, who was his first tuba teacher and mentor. He carried on with his studies at the Music Academy in Ljubljana, worked with prof. Darko Rošker and graduated in 2002.

During the years at the Academy he cooperated with many various orchestras, gained the experiences as a solo tuba player in the Slovenian Military Orchestra and played in various symphonic orchestras in Slovenia as a guest artist.

    He has been a member of the Slovenian Military Orchestra, Wind Band Kamniška godba, the Symphonic Orchestra Kamnik – Domžale and Dixieland Band Mamut. Besides he is the founder of Slovenian Tuba Quartet. He has carried out many recitals as a solo tuba player.

He has worked as a conductor, too. For two years he led Wind Band Kamniška godba and for six years he was the conductor of  Youth Wind Band Section of Primary Music School in Kamnik.                                             

    Through all these years he has been improving his knowledge by attending expert courses with great musicians Roger Bobo, Velvet Brown; Jon Sass, Thomas Ruedi and Steven Mead.

    As a member of a quintet of wind instruments he was given a gold award at the national competition of young Slovenian musicians in 1998 (TEMSIG), in 2004 and 2006 he was a semi-finalist at the international competition of tuba players in Budapest and Denver – USA (ITEC). This is where he met prof. Dan Perantoni, a legend of tuba players.

   In 2006 he started his study with Mr. Dan Perantoni at Indiana University School of Music and finished with Performer diploma in 2008.

   Nowdays he is teaching at Music School in Kranj; High School in Celje and Music school in Kamnik, plays with different orchestras in Slovenia, he also often plays with Belgrade Filharmonic orchestra. He plays recitals, give masterclasses. Every year he organize Oktuba Fest in Kranj, Slovenia and also Tuba Santas.

During his teaching, he achieved excellent results with his students.  For the most part, the students competed for the highest awards, both in solo and in chamber competition at national competitions in Slovenia and competitions abroad.
