Karolina Šantl Zupan graduated and completed her postgraduate studies at the Ljubljana Academy of Music in the class of Professor Fedja Rupel. She furthered her studies with Professor W. Schulz at the College of Music and Fine Arts in Vienna. In the course of her studies she took part in a great number of national and international competitions and received numerous awards in. In 1990 she was awarded a special prize by the jury at the Markneukirchen and received a Student Prešeren Award (the highest decoration in the field of artistic and in the past also scientific creation in Slovenia) for her performance of Philippe Gaubert’s Sonata. Karolina Šantl Zupan began her professional career with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also worked as a solo flutist in the orchestra of the Slovene Opera and Ljubljana Ballet and still, from time to time, takes part in their productions. She has performed in various chamber ensembles with recognised Slovenian and foreign artists and is currently a member of the International flute quartet 4Syrinx. Her success as a teacher has been confirmed by her numerous students who have received prizes at state and international competitions. She has redacted and published three editions of Etudes for Flute in association with Professor Matej Zupan (teaching materials for flute classes in music schools). She frequently takes part in summer schools, holding annual seminars and master classes in Croatia and Slovenia. Alongside her pedagogical work she also regularly performs at solo recitals and as soloists with various orchestras. She has recorded for Slovenian radio and television and for RAI in Italy. As a soloist she performed and recorded performances various orchestras in Slovenia and abroad. Her discography includes two albums with flute and piano works by Paulenc, Dvorak, Widor & Taktakishvili, two albums with works for flute and harp: Nocturne and Impressions, a recording of Flute concerts by Carl Reinecke, Jacques Ibert, Jindřich Feld done in collaboration with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and three albums recorded with the 4Syrinx flute quartet Monochromia, Room for Four and Decade. The newest album that it soon to be released is a recording of Mozart Flute and Harp Concert with Slovenian Philharmonic and Mojca Zlobko Vajgl.
